Lakeview Terrace Community Building
Cleveland, Ohio

Lakeview Terrace is a forty-seven public building housing complex that overlooks Lake Erie and downtown Cleveland, and was originally constructed in 1937. The Master Plan of Lakeview Terrace involves a “gut-rehab” of the apartment buildings and a comprehensive modernization of the Community Center.

The modernization integrates restoration, renovation, and expansion to create a revitalized Community Center, while maintaining the historic character and construction methods. Within the Center are office areas, a kitchen, a new life skills training kitchen, computer lab, gymnasium, and performance stage.

Found abandoned in the existing basement and behind paneled walls are remarkable murals completed by renowned WPA artists, Charles Campbell and Earl Neff. Recently restored to their original state, the murals are currently on display in the public areas of the Community Center.
