Kendal at Oberlin Cottage Expansion
Oberlin, Ohio

Herman Gibans Fodor, Inc. developed a comprehensive master plan for the expansion and renovation of Kendal at Oberlin, a continuing care retirement community located on ninety-three acres adjacent to Oberlin Cottage. The first phase of the plan to be implemented included the construction of twelve new independent living cottages sited in a meadow between an existing lake and silver maple woodland.

The design of the new cottages takes advantage of marvelous views with a tapered wall of glass in each living room. Another angled wall provides access to a three-season room that is oriented toward the scenic vistas. The living rooms also feature a fourteen-foot high cathedral ceiling that further enhances the openness of the cottages. All of the cottages are fully wheelchair accessible and include features that maximize resident independence and safety.

In addition to the new cottages, HGF also directed the renovation of the existing health, wellness and rehabilitation clinic, a four-bed expansion of the skilled nursing wing, the addition of a new marketing office suite and new community meeting rooms. HGF is currently designing twenty-four additional independent living cottages and the expansion and renovation of the community building dining rooms.
