The building is sensitive to the environmental constraints of solar heat gain and maximization of daylight. Additional sustainable approaches were addressed as well, including ground source heat pumps utilizing geothermal energy as the primary source of heating and cooling.

The new construction embodies an image of stability with its sprawling horizontality and stone base that ties the building to the site. Vertical fins and overhangs define the entrances and window openings. The contrast between the massive horizontal planes and glass ornamentation becomes an elegant interaction of complimenting materials.
